So goes the saying, but like any saying we tend to just brush it off as one of those things people say to a smart alec or something like that. The fact of the matter is however that it is really the truth.

Nothing in life is guaranteed, and we set ourselves up for disappointment by expecting to have certain things in our lives. The greater the expectations, the harder the fall.

The fact is that we don’t deserve anything, and that is one of the hardest facts to accept. We all feel a sense of entitlement and that we deserve this thing or that thing.

There is only one thing that is gauranteed in this life and that is the word of God. It never fails and it is the absolute truth. Rather then seeking money, cars, toys, or whatever else we run after, we should be focusing our energy on seeking him. He is the only thing that will NOT disappoint us, the only way to find true happiness. There will be nothing to get disappointed or upset about if there is nothing we expect.

That is not to say that God won’t bless you with this things, but how can he trust us with material objects if they become the center of our lives and take away from our relationship with him? I have learned, over last year, a very valuable lesson when it comes to truly being happy and it can be summed up in one word.

Servant

“What are saying? That I should serve others and ignore my own needs?” That is exactly what I’m saying. When we take the focus off of our selves and put it on others around us, then we bring happiness to other peoples lives. I have found Joy in helping others and seeing how much it makes them smile.

Real servitude comes with no expectations. Don’t do something with the expectation to get something in return, because guess what? It will only set you up for disappointment. Expectation is the evil word here.

We can desire to own a home or a car all we want, and it is going to hurt when we can’t obtain it, or have it and lose it. God promises that he will bless us with whatever we need and desire, and we can TRUST that his word is true. So yes, you will get that house, you will get that car, you will get that job, but it will happen when God feels you are ready.

So put you faith and trust in him and let him bless you. Don’t put your faith and trust in the things of this world that we ultimately have no control over. Stay focused on his word and you will be able to overcome every obstacle no matter how difficult.

God Bless
